What a beautiful day

Oh what a beautiful day it is!  The sun is shining, we are all healthy, and my baby girl has announced that she wants to move back home.

Of course I want her to as well, so I didn’t try to persuade her otherwise.  You see after living with her fiance at our family home, they decided that they wanted a change and decided to go live elsewhere.  I personally didn’t think they were ready for the commitment, and knew that it would be hard on her as she is only 18 years old.  But gave them my blessing regardless.

It took a whole 3 month before she decided where she was better off, and is now packing up her things ready to move home this weekend.

Yipee… I’m sooooo happy that she’s coming back home.

I suppose it’s easy as a parent to say the words “I told you so”, but I can honestly say it’s even harder not to.  The last thing that Jessica needs right now is people thinking they knew best, when in all fairness the best way to learn anything in life is by making mistakes, and learning from them.

So now begins the hard work as all our bedrooms are already occupied, and I had made the spare room into my craft room.  You can imagine how many things have to be  packed up and put away, not to mention redecorated.  But I know it will be worth the effort when my baby is back home and happy once again.

Heres to happy families and knowing that someone is always there to hold your hand, give you a hug and tell you it’s ok to make mistakes.  I love my family.

Until next time

Off cuts

Hey there world,

Do you have a bunch of scrap pieces of paper?  Do you shove them all in a box but never seem to use them up?  ME TOO.

I was tired of having half a sheet of this and only a scrap of that leftover, so I tried my best to create some cards using them up.  I added in the use of some Stampin up stamps, namely flowering fields and timeless textures, and an odd scroll stamp from my stash and hey presto, a bunch of cards to sell on etsy.  Think I will make up packs of cards with a selection of my makes in them.  That way there are no 2 cards the same in each pack, which means something for every occassion hopefully.

The images were coloured in watercolours, and I added some silver thread and red flatback pearls to add a bit of interest to the cards.

Not the greatest of pictures, but I love the rolled wallpaper effect on this card, it really did use up some scraps:)

I do believe that the papers I used are from a collection called ” On the bright side” by My Minds Eye.  Not sure if its still available, as I was given it a few years ago for christmas. But if you can’t buy it anymore don’t despair, just get creative with what you have already,

Think they turned out quite well, until next time.Carry on crafting xx

MIAMI swaps

Morning peeps, by the title above I bet you all think I am currently in MIAMI?  I WISH!  Unfortunately not, I am still here in the UK.  MIAMI is short for Make It And Mail It, a UK craft swap group over on Facebook.

They run swaps every month, where crafters from around the UK create items following the swap rules, then basically swap with other crafters.  This gives you a reason to create, plus you get to see other peoples work, that you otherwise wouldn’t.  This month I joined 2 swaps, one of which I have already shared…. The Twinchies, and the other was a handbag full of embellishments. Soooo I thought that seen as though my swap partner has now received her goodies from me, I would share my makes with you.

The first embellishments were a set of 4 tags.  These could be used as gift tags of a topper as the were of a good size.

A pack of 4 concertina butterflies, and a better shot of the handbag.

4 beautiful little love heart embellishments, made with corrugated cardstock, I bought from the £ shop.  Some good crafty finds in there sometimes.

Afternoon tea anyone?  Included 2 larger teapot embellishments & smaller cupcake embellishments.

And finally…. border clusters.

All 12 inche in length makin the perfect for your scrapbook pages.

created with papers from Paper Whimsies, card stock from Stampin up & a selection of gems and flowers from my stash,

Sorry for the long post today,  but I hope you like what you see, and it inspires you to go have fun and create something today.

Happy crafting folks xx

weekend retreat

Afternoon all. Well what a lovely weekend I had.  Visited the caravan for a couple of days as I do, but the fact that it was just me & the hubby was a whole different matter.  Its the first time in 23 years since we had a night completely alone.

Well with 5 kids what do you expect!  They are all grown up now, but with Zach been special needs, he is always with us.  So as he is on a school trip, we took advantage and had a few days alone.

What a wonderful weekend it was, even though it rained on the Saturday, it made no difference. We got to enjoy each others company, watch a movie, and I was even able to craft without having to pack up while I cooked dinner. (hubby did it as a treat).

I did follow a couple of card sketches from either Mojo Monday, My Favourite Things or Operation Write Home. Not sure which ones….Sorry.

Below are 12 of the 16 cards I made, as the other 4 are awaiting bows to be added, so will post them on another day.  So without further ado-:

I used Stampin up cardstock in Blushing Bride, Marina mist and sweet sugarplum, also stamps from Dreamees and Hunkydory.  The paper collection is called Idyllic from nitwitcollections.  Really pleased with the outcome, now to bag em up and put them in my little online store on Etsy.

Hope you like my makes, until next time, keep doing what makes you happy :)))

Au Revoir

Well today has been a little bit strange for me, as my youngest son has flown to France with 31 other students, on a PGL school trip. Whats wrong with that? I hear you ask.  Well there’s nothing wrong with it, it’s just that he’s autistic, and I am so used to having to clock watch all the time, that it’s really really strange not having him around.

Zach is 17 years old, and was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3 you see.  He attends a special needs school in our home town, where he is now in year 12.  Seeing him with all the other pupils eagerly waiting to go to the airport was quite moving, for want of a better word.  He seemed so grown up.  So much so that when I asked for a cuddle goodbye, all I got was a quick wave of the hand and then he put his head down, as if to say ” go away & stop embarrassing me mom”!  ( chuckling to myself right now).

Regular teenage behaviour really, trust me I know.  Zach is the youngest of 5, so I am quite well educated on the subject of teenagers if I do say so myself.

Good to know they arrived safetly, and he is with a more than competant group of staff members from his school.  I know he will enjoy all the activities that they have on offer, plus he loves swimming, so any chance of water activities will go down a treat.

Time to go as I will soon be trotting off to my static caravan for the weekend.  2 nights of just me and hubby….. Oh and a rather strategically packed craft bag.  Come on a girls gotta craft!!  And what a better time than when I have no responsibilities as far as watching kids goes. Just good company and a bit of craft, sounds like a relaxing weekend is just up ahead.

Until next time, do what makes you happy!

Twinchie Twinchie Little Stars

Good morning everybody, hope you are all enjoying you day?

I thought I would share with you some mixed media twinchies with you today.  I made these for a Facebook group swap (Make It & Mail It).  Anyhoo, before I share my creations please let me tell you that I have never really tried anything Mixed Media, so not really sure what you will all think. I am no expert, and have not taken any classes to learn any techniques.  What I have done however is watch lots of YouTube videos, & scour Pinterest for inspiration, let’s face it, what can’t you find on YouTube & Pinterest !

The first thing I did was cut 5 pieces of mountboard at 2 inch square.  I then added some homemade texture paste through some stencils, I liked how that turned out.  When that had dried I applied a coat of homemade Gesso as it gave a nice base for my inks to be added onto.  Stampin ups tempting turqoise & tip top taupe were used for the background colours, and copper embossing powder was added around the edges to create a distressed look.  A little bit of background stamping with Stampin Ups Timeless Textures also added a bit more interest.  I finished them off with all kinds of bits and pieces, from old stashed away jewellry that I no longer use, to tiny washers and nuts from hubbs tool box. All I did to co-ordinate some of the bits was press them into a versamark ink pad, then heat emboss with my copper coloured embossing powder.

Totally loved how they turned out, so much so that I didn’t want to part with them, but hey ho, thats why I created them in the first place.  Now go to your craft space, gather a few bits & pieces, paper clips, ring pulls, safety pins….anything, and see what you can create.  Most importantly, just have fun.

Thats what it’s all about after all.

Until next time…… Carry on crafting x

One Sheet Wonder

Who doesn’t love a one sheet wonder?  Sometimes when I get a creative block, & I really really want to create,  I will use a one sheet wonder layout, or a card sketch to help unlock my mind state.  Although I made a set of 6 cards from a couple of sheets of 6×6 paper, here are just a few for you to see.

There are plenty of layouts available on Pinterest, go ahead and take a look.

Think they turned out pretty good considering, all I added was some Basic Black cardstock from Stampin Up, a couple of punched flowers and a few pearls.

Perfect for any occasion, just stamp the greeting of your choice and voila!! A fab set of cards to put in your stash.  Whether it’s for a birthday or just to say hello, you can’t beat opening an envelope that doesn’t contain a bill, and what a nice way to let someone know you are thinking of them.

It’s so much more personal than a text message or email, don’t you agree?

Go on…. make someone smile today :)))

Until next time
